A Berks County man was jailed Wednesday after he allegedly attacked a blind man at a Schuylkill County motel.
Police in Pottsville say they were dispatched to Pottsville Motor Inn along Route 61 North at about 6:11 a.m. for a threat report.
The victim of an alleged assault told police that John Filozof, 60, knocked on his door at the motel and started screaming at him, “GET THE (BLEEP) OUT” of his hotel.
Filozof then allegedly headbutted the victim twice, causing him to suffer a contusion and a bleeding laceration to his forehead. He then allegedly continued to shout and curse at the victim, threatening to kill him.
Police say the victim told them that he’d never met Filozof and couldn’t see him.
The victim was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville for treatment of his injuries.
Filozof was taken into custody but tried fighting police and resisting arrest, police say.
Police have charged Filozof with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest. He’s also been charged with summary counts of harassment and public drunkenness.
Filozof was arraigned Wednesday morning before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley. Reiley set bail at $25,000 cash and Filozof was sent to Schuylkill County Prison, pending a preliminary hearing.
