Woman Who Reported Being Raped in Schuylkill County Made It Up to “Get Back” at Boyfriend, Police Say

She wanted to go back to Philly but he didn’t, police report.

Police say their investigation into a reported rape in Schuylkill County back in August leads them to believe the person reporting the attack fabricated the story.

State Police have filed charges against Stephanie Vazquez-Gonzalez, 33, of Philadelphia, for making up a story about being raped over the course of several days in Barry Township.

On Aug. 19, police were contacted by Vazquez-Gonzalez who said she was being held hostage at a home on Well Drive in Barry Township.

Police say they responded to that address and interviewed Vazquez-Gonzalez, who reportedly told them that her boyfriend was forcing her to perform sex acts on him and raping her against her will.

She said this happened twice after she’d rejected his advances. Vazquez-Gonzalez went so far as to say her boyfriend strangled her during one of the attacks.

Police say they transported Vazquez-Gonzalez to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville to collect a rape kit.

Meanwhile, police say they interviewed the boyfriend, who they say denied all the allegations against him, including preventing Vazquez-Gonzalez from leaving the cabin where they’d been staying.

A week later, police say they conducted a follow-up interview with Vazquez-Gonzalez at their Schuylkill Haven barracks. During this interview, she reportedly admitted to making up the story from a week ago.

Vazquez-Gonzalez told police that she made up the allegations because she wanted to go back to Philadelphia and her boyfriend wanted to stay. She said she used the rape story to “get back” at him.

Police say she also admitted to consensual sex with her boyfriend despite claiming she was raped.

Vazquez-Gonzalez has been charged with a misdemeanor count of making a false report to police.
