It’s Furiday Friends on Coal Region Canary!
Each week, we team up with Hillside SPCA to introduce pets waiting for their forever homes. Adoption isn’t just about giving an animal shelter—it’s about finding a companion who brings joy, comfort, and love into your life.
This week, meet Kallie and Josie—two very different personalities, each looking for the right person to make their happily-ever-after complete.
Kallie

Kallie is a young, dilute calico with a personality as colorful as her fur (even if her wardrobe is pastel).
Like any self-respecting calico, she comes fully equipped with a little “sass package”—no batteries required. Kallie is a master of the “pet me… but only when I say so” lifestyle. One moment, she’s soaking up attention like a diva on the red carpet, and the next she’s declaring, “Excuse me, it’s me-time,” and heading off to recharge in her quiet corner.
Think of her as the roommate who sometimes wants to binge-watch TV with you, but other times insists on “self-care Sundays.”
She’s spayed, up to date on shots, and feline aids/leukemia negative—basically, all the boring grown-up stuff is taken care of. Now she just needs a human who can appreciate her sass, respect her boundaries, and laugh along the way.
If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a cat with a bit of attitude and a lot of charm, Kallie just might be your perfect match. After all, life’s more fun with a little spice!
Josie

At 7 years old, Josie is a Lab mix with a heart that’s been through a lot—and she’s still learning that the world can be kind. After coming from a rough start and spending the last 3 years at Hillside SPCA, Josie is looking for that one patient person who can show her what “home” really means.
She’s a little timid (okay, a lot timid) and tends to be terrified of new things. But under that cautious exterior is a sweet girl who just needs time, consistency, and a safe space to let her true personality shine. A fenced-in yard would be her dream setup—her own little kingdom to explore without the big, scary unknowns.
Josie does best with a slow introduction, so she’ll need a few meetings with her adopter before she decides you’re trustworthy. She might be okay sharing her space with a mellow male dog, but female dogs are not on her guest list. What she does love without hesitation? Stuffy toys. Those are her comfort and her joy.
Josie may never be the bold, outgoing type—but if you’re the kind of person who can love her for exactly who she is, fears and all, you’ll earn the loyalty of a gentle soul who has waited far too long for her chance.
