A Schuylkill County man died Sunday afternoon after he was struck while he attended to his disabled vehicle on Route 61.
According to State Police, at just after 2 p.m., Eduard Barcenas-Moncada, 58, of Shenandoah, was checking under the hood of his vehicle that was stopped in the left lane of Route 61-South.
At the same time, a vehicle driven by a Landingville man, was also in the southbound lane. Police say the driver of that vehicle did not see Moncada’s vehicle stopped in the roadway and crashed into it.
This impact sent Moncada in the air a short distance. Moncada was pronounced dead at the scene by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.
A passenger in Moncada’s vehicle sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police say.
