A Schuylkill County woman died Thursday afternoon in a crash along Interstate 81 in Dauphin County.
According to State Police, the crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. near Mile Marker 78.9, in East Hanover Township, in the northbound lanes of the highway.
A Mack truck driven by Carol Lopez, 56, of Schuylkill Haven, was traveling north in the left lane of the interstate. The vehicle experienced a front passenger-side tire failure, police say, causing the truck to make a sudden right turn.
Lopez’ vehicle crashed through a guide rail on the right side of the highway and traveled up an embankment before it overturned.
Police say Lopez was trapped inside the vehicle as fire and medical personnel arrived at the scene. Life-saving measures were taken but Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by South Central EMS.
The crash closed the right, northbound lane of I-81 until about 6 p.m. Thursday, police say.
