Pottsville City Council members are likely to vote on a towing rotation policy at their regular meeting on Monday.
What towing company gets called by emergency first responders, often at the scene of traffic crashes or when police have ordered a vehicle removed from streets, has been a hot-button issue in several Schuylkill County municipalities.
Mahanoy City has been sued in federal court by a towing company that alleges a conspiracy is afoot to prevent it from getting Borough tow jobs. Shenandoah was threatened with legal action over a towing rotation that it eventually abandoned because it apparently couldn’t be followed.
Back in September 2024, Mike Litwak, owner of JRL Towing, asked City Council – as it was back then – to consider a towing rotation. Since then, nothing official has happened.
According to the agenda for Monday’s meeting, a “towing policy” will be discussed at a work session and then voted on later.
Bob Womer, owner of Womer’s Garage, which also does towing jobs for the City, is expected to address Council on Monday.
