A Schuylkill County man is facing multiple felonies after allegedly assaulting a woman during a domestic dispute earlier this week while she was holding an infant.
Court documents show police were dispatched to a home in North Union Township shortly after 7 p.m. on Sept. 4.
According to investigators, Casey Nowak, 37, was intoxicated and got into an argument with his alleged victim. As the woman tried to leave, Nowak allegedly blocked her path, grabbed her by the throat, and pushed her against a door.
Police say Nowak then struck her in the face twice while she held her two-month-old child, knocking them to the floor. He allegedly hit her again while she was on the ground before taking the child outside.
When the woman followed, Nowak allegedly put the baby down, grabbed her by the throat a second time, and punched her once more. The victim told police she said she couldn’t breathe, and Nowak allegedly replied, “That’s the point.”
The woman eventually broke free and escaped the situation.
Nowak is charged with felony strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child, along with misdemeanor simple assault, reckless endangerment, and summary harassment.
He was arraigned Sept. 5 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli, who set unsecured bail at $50,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24.
