Advocates with Action Together NEPA are planning a rally in Pottsville next week to call for increased public education funding and a resolution to Pennsylvania’s ongoing budget stalemate.
The Community Speak-out for Public Education Funding is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. outside Sen. David Argall’s office, 100 N. Centre St., in Pottsville.
Organizers say the event is intended to highlight decades of underfunding in Pennsylvania schools, including those in Schuylkill County. They note a 2021 Commonwealth Court ruling that declared the state’s funding system unconstitutional and ordered lawmakers to close the gap.
“Three years later, we’ve fixed only 11% of the funding gap, our schools are still underfunded, and the state hasn’t passed a budget for next year,” Action Together NEPA said in announcing the event.
Parents, students, educators, and community members are being encouraged to participate, the group says.
Following the rally, Action Together Schuylkill County will hold its monthly chapter meeting at Alvernia University’s Pottsville CollegeTowne.

I asked one of the protesters at this gathering what the protest was about. She didn’t have a great answer but she did manage to blame republicans for the Big Beautiful Bill. I mentioned to her that what we need is more rich people, because they pay the bulk of the federal income taxes. She told me I was wrong and I don’t know what I was talking about. Explained how the top 10percent pay the majority of the federal income taxes. She told me that the rich don’t pay any taxes. I attempted to show her on my phone actual data, but my phone died just then. I hurried home to print some objective data that easily shows my point. When I got back to the protest, she and all but one or two were still there.
I can’t believe people are still uninformed believing the rich don’t pay federal income taxes.

I meant to say when i got back with the printout, she was no longer there and most everyone was gone except one or two who were leaving as i came back. Sorry if that part was confusing. Seems I cannot edit after post.
