A Schuylkill County man is facing numerous charges after police say he ran into a roadway worker with his truck earlier this week.
Court documents show that State Police were called to a location along Molleystown Rd. in Tremont Township shortly after noon on Sept. 2 for a report of a hit-and-run crash.
At the scene, police say they spoke with a member of a road crew who says he was performing traffic control duties at the work site. Two hours prior to his calling police, the victim of this alleged incident reportedly told police that he and two other co-workers got into a verbal dispute with Kevin Zimmerman, 59.
The victim told police that Zimmerman, driving a Peterbilt semi at the time, was angry earlier in the day because the roadwork underway restricted access to his driveway.
A little while after that initial confrontation, Zimmerman drove down his driveway in a white Chevrolet Silverado and left the area. Shortly after noon, the victim told police, Zimmerman came back to the area and got stopped in traffic.
Zimmerman reportedly got agitated, which led to another verbal altercation. The victim said he instructed Zimmerman to back his truck up, which he did but then immediately sped forward, hitting the victim with his vehicle in the torso and shoulder area.
Zimmerman then reportedly left the scene and drove up his driveway.
Police say the victim was able to capture the incident, including him getting hit by Zimmerman’s vehicle, on his phone’s camera, and that the video corroborates his side of the story.
The victim declined EMS assistance at the scene but said he was suffering from pain in his abdomen, right arm and leg, and lower back.
Zimmerman was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley on Sept. 2 and charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and vehicular aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and accidents involving injury, along with summary offenses for harassment, failing to yield in a construction zone, careless driving, and reckless driving.
Reiley set bail at $50,000 cash and Zimmerman was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison. He posted bond the following day, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23 before Judge David Rossi.
