A Saint Clair woman is locked up on $150,000 bail after police conducted a drug sweep of her home Tuesday evening.
According to information included in court documents and from police at the scene, officers from Saint Clair and Minersville arrived at 315 S. Mill St. shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and executed a search warrant on the residence.
Numerous people both inside and outside the residence were detained prior to the sweep, including Carol Evitts-Schaeffer, who was initially seated at the kitchen table.
During the search, police say they found numerous items including:
- Methamphetamine – Total of 27.3 grams contained in four bags, including one large crystal weighing 11.3 grams. Packaged in weights commonly found for sale.
- Psilocybin (mushrooms) – 8.3 grams.
- Fentanyl – Total 12.7 grams contained in 13 bags and one bundle (10 wax bags).
- Heroin – Total 1.2 grams in seven wax bags.
- Digital scales – Three scales.
- One Smith & Wesson Springfield SD9 VE.
- Two boxes of 9mm ammunition.
- Approximately 43 miscellaneous controlled pills.
- Brass knuckles.
- Two cellular phones.
- Large quantity of hypodermic needles.
- Large quantity of new and unused resealable Zip-loc style baggies in various sizes.
One fact not included in court documents that The Canary learned from police on the scene is that during the sweep, police reportedly found a bag containing several live baby squirrels. Another woman at the scene, police say, was harboring one of the baby squirrels in her bosom.
After Evitts-Schaeffer was read her rights, she reportedly made several statements to police indicating that the drugs and paraphernalia were all hers and that her husband knew nothing about it.
During the interview, Evitts-Schaeffer reportedly asked Minersville Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers for a cigarette. Bowers gave her the cigarette and as she was lighting it, Evitts-Schaeffer is quoted as saying, “Gary doesn’t like when I smoke in the house.”
Bowers said in response, “But he doesn’t mind you selling drugs?”
She answered, “He doesn’t know that I do that.”
Police say Evitts-Schaeffer has multiple convictions among her priors for delivery and possession of a controlled substance and other offenses that prohibit her from owning a gun.
Evitts-Schaeffer was arraigned Tuesday night before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko and charged with four counts of felony possession with intent to deliver and four counts of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. She’s also been charged with a felony gun possession as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and another weapons charge.
Plachko set bail at $150,000 cash and Evitts-Schaeffer was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
Police say more arrests are expected as a result of their findings in this sweep.
