Schuylkill County Man Jailed After Violent Attack on Mother, Step-father, Neighbors, and Family Dogs

Aaron Herrera held on $150K bail

A Pottsville man was jailed following an alleged violent attack on multiple people over the weekend.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday (Aug. 8), police were summoned to the 100 block of N. 18th St. for a report of an assault in progress. When they arrived, police say they found Aaron Herrera, 26, on the ground, held down by several people.

Herrera, police say, was screaming expletives and bleeding from the head. Several other people were also bleeding as police arrived.

After Herrera was taken into custody, police say they interviewed his mother who said her son asked her for $500. She said she didn’t have the money but told him that dinner was ready. Herrera reportedly declined dinner and then started attacking her, first charging her and then punching her in the head mutiple times.

During that commotion, police say Herrera’s step-father came into the kitchen from the basement. Herrera then allegedly started attacking him, delivering multiple punches.

Both Herrera’s mother and step-father were pinned into a corner of the kitchen. Herrera then allegedly knelt on his mother’s back and continued punching her on the top of her head.

A neighbor reportedly heard the commotion and arrived on the scene and started banging on the door. Herrera stopped the attack on his mother when he heard the banging on the door and left the residence. On the way out, he reportedly kicked the family dogs.

When he got outside, Herrera then attacked the female neighbor, punching her in the face at least four times and breaking her glasses.

Other neighbors then rushed to help. Two male neighbors were hit in the abdomen by Herrera before they were finally able to subdue him until police arrived.

Herrera’s mother suffered golf ball-sized contusions to the top of her head and scratches to her arm, police say. His step-father had numerous injuries to his face, right eye, cheek, and bottom lip. They were taken by a friend to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital near Orwigsburg, police say.

Police have charged Herrera with two counts of aggravated assut, three counts of simple assault, five counts of harassment, a single count of criminal mischief, two counts of cruelty to animals, and a single count of disorderly conduct.

Herrera was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge AJ Serina and bail was set at $150,000. Herrera was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
