Girardville Stabbing Suspect Facing New Charges Related to Fight Over Stolen Torch Lighter

Isaiah Fasig facing new assault charge

The Schuylkill County man accused of stabbing another man in Girardville earlier this week is facing an additional assault charge related to an alleged fight over a stolen torch lighter last month.

Police say they were able to connect Isaiah Fasig, 20, to the alleged previous assault when his nickname “Zay” came up during their stabbing investigation on Aug. 4 on N. Line St. in Girardville.

Back on July 27, police say they contacted the victim of an alleged assault at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville. The victim of that alleged assault reportedly told police that he got into an argument earlier that night with a friend he only knew as Isaiah or “Zay” over a stolen torch lighter.

He said “Zay” approached him while he was sitting on his couch and punched him in the face several times. The injuries he sustained in the assault required staples to repair, he said.

While questioning Fasig about the alleged stabbing in Girardville earlier this week, police say they also asked about the assault over the stolen torch lighter. Fasig denied assaulting the victim. Instead, he said he’d gotten into an argument with the victim over the lighter because the victim had accused a woman he later left his house with of stealing the lighter.

Further, Fasig told police that another man that was in the victim’s house that night told him that he wanted to beat up the victim. So, it was likely that other man who assaulted the victim, Fasig said.

The victim confirmed that it was definitely Fasig who assaulted him in the confrontation over the lighter.

Police have tacked on simple assault and harassment charges to Fasig’s record. A preliminary hearing on these charges and those related to the alleged stabbing incident will be held this coming week before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli.

Fasig is being held on $250,000 bail at Schuylkill County Prison.
