Two Pennsylvania State Troopers were shot in the line of duty Thursday morning. The suspected shooter was shot and killed by police.
According to updated information from State Police, Troopers in Susquehanna County were responding to an incident in Thompson Township shortly after 11 a.m.
During an encounter at the scene, police say, a male suspect opened fire on the Troopers, wounding two.
Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins sustained serious injuries and were airlifted from the scene to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both are currently listed in stable condition.
A perimeter was secured around the scene. Police say the suspect, armed with a rifle, refused to comply with commands and was shot and killed.
Police say their investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Gov. Josh Shapiro responded to the scene and says on X, “Lori and I are praying for these brave Troopers, and our thoughts are with their families, friends, and every member of the State Police.”
