Schuylkill County Man Facing Felony Charge After Allegedly Attacking Man at His Job

A Schuylkill County man is facing a felony aggravated assault charge after he allegedly attacked a man outside his place of employment because he believes he’s sleeping with his girlfriend.

According to court documents, a Trooper from State Police-Schuylkill Haven was dispatched to a business in Tremont where an employee had reported being the victim of an assault on the night of July 28.

Police say they viewed surveillance video of the alleged incident. That video reportedly shows Matthew Miller, 37, of Tremont, jumping a man riding a bicycle to his job. Miller, not wearing a shirt and sporting a pony tail and full beard, allegedly punches the victim three times in the face. He then puts the victim in a choke hold for about 10 seconds.

The victim is able to escape the choke hold but Miller then punches him in the face four more times.

During an interview with police, the victim reportedly said Miller began running after him as he was attempting to park his bicycle at his place of employment. That’s when he was attacked.

After landing the final four blows, Miller reportedly fled the scene. Upon leaving, Miller allegedly told the victim, “I want to kill you.”

The victim told police he thinks Miller attacked him because he believes he’s sleeping with his girlfriend. He said the girlfriend is staying with him because she’s afraid of Miller.

Police say the victim suffered a swollen and bruised eye during the confrontation.

Miller reportedly agreed over the phone to come to the Schuylkill Haven barracks for an interview late last month but as of Aug. 4, he has ghosted police.

Miller is facing a felony aggravated assault charge in addition to misdemeanor offenses for making terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, strangulation, and prowling at night, and a summary for harassment.
