An arrest warrant has been issued for a Pottsville man that police say was involved in a domestic assault earlier this week.
Police in Pottsville say they were called to N. Progress Ave. and E. Norwegian St. at about 3 p.m. on July 28 for a reported domestic disturbance.
The alleged victim of this incident told police that the night prior, she and Akeem Smith, 24, became involved in an argument in a parking lot across the street from her house.
The argument got physical when Smith hit the victim with either a broken windshield wiper or a wrench. Police say the victim wasn’t exactly sure what Smith used to hit her.
The victim reported injuries to her upper torso after Smith ripped at her shirt and grabbed her chest. She also said she sustained scratches to her left arm after Smith reportedly threw her to the ground and dragged her across the gravel parking lot.
Smith allegedly took the victim’s phone and threw it in the bushes, preventing her from phoning police as the incident happened.
A warrant for Smith’s arrest was signed later on the 28th. He’s facing charges of simple assault and harassment.
