Police have filed retail theft charges against a Schuylkill County man who allegedly stole nearly $300 worth of booze from two stores in the same shopping plaza earlier this year.
According to court documents filed by State Police last week, Noah Shaak, 27, is accused of walking out Weis Markets, just outside Pottsville, with $222.49 worth of alcohol without paying the full amount for the merchandise. Police say Shaak altered the labels on the merchandise.
Shaak then allegedly went to the Fine Wine & Good Spirits state store, also located in Pottsville Park Plaza, and stole $49.88 worth of alcohol there. Police say it was two bottles of Ole Smokey Moonshine Butter Pecan.
Police say both incidents were captured on store surveillance cameras.
When police questioned Shaak later, he reportedly told them he knew why they wanted to speak with him. He reportedly told police that he no longer had the alcohol and that he stole it for a friend.
Shaak was taken into custody and transported to the State Police-Schuylkill Haven barracks for processing. En route to the barracks, police say Shaak apologized profusely for stealing the booze.
Two counts of misdemeanor retail theft were filed against Shaak last week in District Court. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko has been scheduled for Aug. 26.
