Pottsville Man Jailed on Burglary Charges

Tyler Porter, 35, allegedly broke into N. 2nd St. home.

A Pottsville man was arrested and jailed Sunday night after he allegedly broke into a home and stole a set of car keys.

According to information released by Pottsville Bureau of Police, officers were called to the 600 block of N. 2nd St. at about 9 p.m. Sunday for a report of a burglary.

At the scene, police say the front door of the home was open with visible damage to the door and jamb. A security camera outside the door had been ripped down, police say.

Nearby, police encountered Tyler Porter, 35, of Pottsville, who matched the description of the suspect in the breaking-and-entering.

Porter allegedly admitted to kicking the door in and taking down the camera. He was taken into custody.

As police continued their investigation, they learned Porter had stolen a set of car keys from the home.

Porter has been charged with felony burglary and criminal trespass along with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, theft, receiving stolen property, and prowling at night.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, who set bail at $50,000. Porter did not post bail and was lodged at Schuylkill County Prison pending a preliminary hearing.
