Schuylkill County Man Jailed After Allegedly Attacking Business Owner

Fight had both participants reportedly “going through walls”

A Schuylkill County man is behind bars after police say he attacked a business owner after he was dismissed from a job site.

According to court documents, several Troopers from State Police-Schuylkill Haven were called to a business in Mount Carbon for a report of a fight shortly before 9 a.m. on July 10.

The business owner told police that he learned from a foreman that Jonathan Schramm, 27, was sent home because of problems at the job site.

Schramm reportedly left the job site and went to the business office, where he confronted the owner and demanded to be paid for his work. An argument between Schramm and the business owner then ensued.

Schramm allegedly punched the owner multiple times and refused to leave the office.

At that point, the business owner grabbed an AR-15 he keeps in the office for protection. The gun, he said, was not loaded at the time.

However, Schramm reportedly tried to grab the gun and it fell to the floor. The owner said he regained control of the gun and loaded it, which prompted Schramm to leave the office.

Police say the victim had swelling near his right eye and a gash on his head that likely would require stitches. He also had a cut behind his right ear.

Schramm provided police with a statement saying the business owner refused to pay him, and he didn’t want to leave until he got money he believed he was owed. Regarding the physical altercation, Schramm said he was defending himself because the business owner is bigger than he is.

An office worker at the business reportedly told police that Schramm was dismissed for refusing to work at the job site, and when he came to the office, he was not “acting right.”

She said Schramm entered the office screaming, followed the owner into his office, and started punching him in the head. During the physical altercation, she said both men were “falling and going through walls.”

Police charged Schramm with simple assault, a misdemeanor, and summary offenses of harassment and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley on July 10. Bail was set at 10% of $10,000, which hasn’t been posted, and Schramm remains in Schuylkill County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for Monday morning in Pottsville.
