Urban Memorial Scholarship Awards Presented to Two Mahanoy Area Seniors

Chilinskas and Mayberry recognized for academic excellence and community involvement

Two graduating seniors from Mahanoy Area High School have been awarded scholarships through the Urban Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Anthony James Urban, Esq. (pictured far left), and Brian Joseph Urban, Esq. (second from right), of the Law Offices of Anthony Urban, PC, presented the scholarships to Alexis Chilinskas and William Mayberry on behalf of the scholarship trustee.

Also pictured is Jennifer Zilker, M.Ed., Mahanoy Area Jr./Sr. High School counselor (far right).

For more than 30 years, the Urban Memorial Scholarship has awarded over $150,000 in grants to graduating Mahanoy Area students pursuing higher education. Applicants are selected based on academic merit and financial need. Candidates submit academic and financial information, along with essays explaining how the scholarship would benefit them.

Chilinskas, who ranked first in a class of 78, will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study biochemistry. She plans to pursue an advanced degree in the medical field.

Mayberry plans to study nursing at Widener University and pursue both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He hopes to become a nurse practitioner.

Both recipients are involved in community service and extracurricular activities.

Anthony Urban congratulated the recipients and presented each with a check from the scholarship fund. Brian Urban wished them success in their future studies and extended his best to all Mahanoy Area graduates.

The Law Offices of Anthony Urban maintains offices in Mahanoy City and Pottsville.

Anthony Joseph Urban, Esq. (not pictured), a Mahanoy Area graduate originally from Spruce Street in Mahanoy City, began practicing law in 1962.
