Schuylkill County Man Allegedly Threatened Woman with Hammer During Domestic Altercation

A Schuylkill County man has been charged after police say he threatened to kill a woman by smashing her head with a hammer.

According to court documents, police were called to a home on W. South St. in Mahanoy City shortly after 11 p.m. on July 6 for a reported dometic altercation.

Police say they spoke with the victim of this alleged incident upon their arrival. The woman told police that she got into an argument with her boyfriend, identified as 47-year-old Christopher Brennan, of Mahanoy City.

The victim reportedly told police that Brennan had been drinking and was out of control. Brennan allegedly punched a wall and then grabbed a hammer and used it to smash a cabinet.

While holding the hammer in his hand, Brennan reportedly threatened the victim and said, “I’m going to smash your head!”

Police say they took Brennan into custody and arraigned before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley, charged with making terroristic threats and simple assault.

Reiley set bail at 10% of $10,000, which Brennan has not yet posted and he remains in Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing before Just Anthony Kilker has been scheduled for July 17.
