A Schuylkill County man was jailed over the weekend after police say he hit a woman over the head with a Swiffer mop then continued to assault her.
Police in Pottsville say they were dispatched to a home on S. 9th St. shortly before 11 p.m. on July 4 for a report of a domestic altercation.
At the scene, police say the victim related to them that Kevin Reese, 35, of Pottsville, woke her up by hitting her over the head with a Swiffer mop.
The victim told police she ran out of her room and into the kitchen, where the altercation continued. Reese then allegedly struck the woman multiple times in the face and head and threw her to the ground into a water dish.
Police say the victim suffered head pain along with bruising and cuts about her body. They also noted a broken Swiffer next to the victim’s bed.
Reese, police say, denied any physical assault had occurred.
He was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley during the overnight hours of July 5 and charged with simple assault and harassment. Reiley set bail at 10% of $10,000, which still hasn’t been posted, according to court records, and Reese remains housed at Schuylkill County Prison.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 14.
