A wanted Schuylkill County man was taken into custody last week following a foot pursuit that shut down a portion of Route 61 in Pottsville.
Police in the city say that at shortly after midnight on Friday (March 27), Jason Able-Lewis, 37, of Pottsville, was spotted in the 300 block of E. Arch St. Able-Lewis was convicted of a drug offense late last year but failed to appear to begin serving a 4-8 month sentence.
When Able-Lewis notice he’d been spotted, he ran. A Pottsville Police officer gave chase on foot, from E. Arch to N. George streets, where he ran north to E. Race St. and then south to Line St. He then ran through a parking lot north of the CVS store along Route 61 before being apprehended at Taser-point on the sidewalk in front of CVS, police say.
Northbound lanes of Route 61 were shut down for about 10 minutes while Able-Lewis was taken into custody. Able-Lewis was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison and on Monday, Schuylkill County Judge Andrew Serina ordered him to begin serving the drug sentence imposed last year. He was wanted on several other warrants for his arrest, too, police say, and now faces an additional felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension and a misdemeanor charge of evading arrest on foot.
