Three people were arrested – including a 16-year-old – Saturday in Berks County after allegedly stealing a car in Pottsville, breaking into vehicles near Orwigsburg, and then fleeing police on foot following a short pursuit.
In addition to the charges they’ll be facing in Schuylkill County, Sterno Leopol, 19, of Irvington, NJ, and Rushaun Daley, 19, of Bronx, NY, were taken to Berks County Central Processing Center, arraigned, and remanded to Berks County Prison. The 16-year-old male was taken to Abraxas Academy, where he is currently housed, police say.
State Police in Hamburg report they were notified by the Schuylkill Haven barracks after 3 p.m. Saturday that there were reports of three black males breaking into vehicles in the Orwigsburg area.
The trio fled the area south on Route 61 in a silver Kia that was reported stolen out of Pottsville earlier in the day.
Police say the reported stolen vehicle was spotted turning into the Cabela’s parking lot. The driver, police say, failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated by Troopers out of the Hamburg barracks. That pursuit went south on Route 61 into Windsor Township before coming to an end in Hamburg.
All three males inside the vehicle reportedly fled on foot and were taken into custody following a brief pursuit. Police in Hamburg and Tilden Township assisted in the pursuit and arrests.
