A Schuylkill County man is facing charges following a domestic disturbance where he allegedly forced his way into a bedroom and struck a woman with a door.
Corey Leiby, 55, of West Brunswick Township, is facing charges of simple assault and harassment following an incident that allegedly occurred on the morning of Feb. 5.
Police say Leiby entered the victim’s bedroom to retrieve a coffee pot. Leiby told investigators that when the woman attempted to hold the door shut, he placed his foot in the doorway to peer into the room. He stated he walked away after the woman dialed 911.
The woman reportedly provided a different account to police, stating she had been changing in the bathroom when Leiby entered, prompting her to retreat to her bedroom and lock the door. The affidavit states Leiby began yelling and forced his way into the room.
While the woman attempted to hold the door shut, Leiby allegedly placed his foot in the doorway to prevent it from closing, grabbed the woman’s right arm, and pushed the door. The door subsequently struck the left side of the woman’s face, police say.
The victim alleged that Leiby then entered the room and began tossing the her belongings.
Police say the victim had injuries consistent with her allegations.
Leiby was arraigned later that day before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, who set bail at $25,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing before Senior Magisterial Judge Casimir Kosciolek is scheduled for March 31.
Minersville Man Charged Following Alleged Domestic Altercation
A Minersville man is facing several misdemeanor charges following an alleged domestic altercation earlier this month.
Police in the borough say they were called to an apartment building in the 100 block of Sunbury St. shortly before 5 a.m. on Feb. 3 for an assault in progress.
At the scene, police say the victim was exiting the apartment and running toward a neighbor. She reportedly told police that 32-year-old Gavin Wiliams, of Minersville, had just strangled her.
The victim alleged that she and Williams were in an argument and she told him to leave several times but he refused.
That’s when Williams allegedly grabbed her by the throat and it was to the point that she nearly lost consciousness.
Williams also allegedly grabbed the victim’s phone and wouldn’t return it to her and blocked the door of the apartment to prevent her from leaving.
Police have charged Williams with misdemeanor counts of strangulation, false imprisonment, simple assault, and defiant trespass along with a summary count of harassment.
He’s been ordered to appear at a March 31 preliminary hearing before Senior Magisterial District Judge Edward Lewis in Port Carbon.
