A Schuylkill County woman is facing a felony charge for an alleged SNAP benefits overpayment.
The state’s Office of Inspector General filed charges earlier this month in District Court alleging that Chantilly Smith, 45, of Ashland, received a SNAP benefit overpayment of $10,112 from Oct. 1, 2024, through Oct. 31, 2025.
Smith allegedly failed to report a legally responsible relative’s income during that time.
Through an investigation, the IG’s office determined that that relative had the same mailing address as Smith yet she continued to receive SNAP benefits.
The investigation was prompted by a representative of the Schuylkill County Assistance Office, who noted unreported household income from a relative in Smith’s home.
Smith has been charged with a third-degree felony for fraudulent obtainment of assistance. Charges were filed in District Court in Pottsville.
