Two Drivers Taken to Hospital, Several Vehicles Damaged in Three Pottsville Crashes Tuesday

One crash involved SCMA truck

Two drivers were taken to the hospital and several vehicles were damaged in a series of accidents investigated by the Pottsville Bureau of Police on Tuesday.

Intersection Collision Results in Injuries

Police were dispatched shortly before 1:30 p.m. to the intersection of Mill Creek Ave. and Route 61 for a reported two-vehicle crash.

According to police, Thomas Joiner, 44, of Bethel, was operating a blue 2014 Honda CR-V southbound on the highway. Police determined that Joiner failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection’s red light and entered the lane of travel of a second vehicle.

The second vehicle, a white Ford Explorer operated by a 32-year-old Minersville woman, was traveling eastbound on Mill Creek Ave. and attempting a left turn onto Route 61 at the time of impact.

Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage at the 12 o’clock position and were towed from the scene.

Police said both operators sustained injuries and were taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East for further evaluation.

Joiner was cited for a traffic violation.

Three-Vehicle Crash on Laurel Boulevard

Later that afternoon, at about 3:30, police were dispatched to a chain-reaction crash in the 1300 block of Laurel Blvd.

Police say Brianna Roth, 32, of Pottsville, was driving a Nissan Maxima westbound. It’s alleged Roth rear-ended a Nissan operated by a 39-year-old Pottsville resident. The impact pushed the second Nissan into a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 24-year-old Pottsville man.

The investigation determined the crash originated when an unidentified vehicle came to a stop in the roadway at the intersection of Laurel Blvd. and N. 14th St., causing the following vehicles to rear-end one another.

No injuries were reported and all parties refused medical treatment at the scene, police say. Roth’s vehicle was towed due to disabling front-end damage, while the other vehicles sustained non-disabling damage and were driven from the scene.

Police said the investigation is continuing.

Morning Collision Involving SCMA Truck

Earlier in the day, at about 9 a.m., police responded to a collision in the area of York Farm Road and 16th Street.

According to the report, Sirena Reyes, 30, of Pottsville, was operating a white 2020 Toyota Rav4. Police said Reyes attempted to pull onto York Farm Rd. heading west from a parked position and drove into the path of a 2015 GMC truck owned by Schuylkill County Municipal Authority.

No injuries were reported. The Toyota sustained minor damage, while the GMC truck sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
