Shenandoah is currently reporting multiple water main and pipe breaks in the borough, including a severe break at Borough Hall.
Borough officials say they’re aware of the breaks reported so far and encourage residents to report visible leaks as soon as possible so they can be addressed.
Borough Manager Mike Cadau says there are an average of 1 to 2 per day and equated it to a game of Whack-a-Mole.
Shenandoah says it’s working with its water service provider, Aqua, to address the multiple breaks and leaks.
Aging infrastructure and bitter cold temperatures are being blamed for the multiple water main breaks.
Further, a water main break at Borough Hall is believed to be “far more severe” than originally thought.
It’s likely that water service to Borough Hall will be restored in time to open the building on Friday. As such, Borough Hall will be closed on Friday. All municipal bills with due dates scheduled for this week will be extended to next week. No late fees will be assessed during this period.
