Canary Rescue Crew: Let’s Change Coralee’s Status to ‘Adopted’

Coralee is Annalee’s sister. Both need a home to call their own.

In a shelter environment, it is often the loudest dogs who get noticed first. But if you look past the barking and the jumping, you will find Coralee.

Like her sister Annalee, this beautiful six-year-old has spent five long years at Hillside SPCA. While they share the title of “longest-tenured residents,” Coralee has a story and a spirit all her own. She is the shy, gentle soul of the pair, waiting patiently for someone willing to look a little deeper.

Coralee is a striking mix of German Shepherd, Husky, and Chihuahua, but her personality is defined by a soft, reserve nature. She is a bit more timid than her sister and looks at the world with cautious optimism. She needs a human who understands the language of patience—someone who knows that the love of a shy dog is the most rewarding prize of all once earned. Like her sister, she finds comfort and joy in her “stuffy” toys; seeing her quietly carry a plush toy around is a heartwarming glimpse into the playful girl hiding behind the shyness.

Because the shelter is the only world she has known for so long, Coralee needs a calm, stable environment to truly blossom. She is looking for an adult-only home—a sanctuary where she won’t be startled by the unpredictability of children. She walks well on a leash and finds confidence in routine. She has done well with male dogs in the past, and having a confident canine brother could be exactly what she needs to help her feel brave in a new home.

Five years is a long time to be overlooked because you are quiet. Coralee doesn’t need a loud fanfare; she just needs a soft voice and a kind hand to show her that she is safe.
