In the event of a prolonged and widespread power outage in the borough, Shenandoah has implemented an Emergency Power Outage Communication and Shelter plan.
Borough officials urge residents to remain calm in the event of a power outage during and after the impending winter storm.
In the event of a power outage, residents are being urged to have their mobile devices fully charged. They should also protect plumbing by running water slowly from a sink on the lower and upper levels of their home.
If electricity, internet, or mobile services are lost during this time, the Borough says Shenandoah’s Fire Dept. will conduct drive-through announcements to residents using a public address system.
Officials urge people to help neighbors, especially elderly or otherwise vulnerable residents, who may not hear or understand the messages.
Should a power outage last an extended period of time, emergency shelter locations will be established at:
- Shenandoah Senior Center: 116 N. Main St.
- Columbia Hose Fire Co.: 742 W. Centre St.
These shelters will only be activated should conditions warrant and the Borough says it will notify residents if that happens.
