National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Schuylkill County.
The Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 10 p.m. Saturday and expires at 1 p.m. Monday.
Right now, forecasters are calling for between 10-18 inches of snow to fall on the area during that time.
Snow is expected to enter the area late Saturday night and become heavy at times – with snowfall rates of at least 1-2 inches per hour, periodically – through Sunday.
According to the latest forecast for the Pottsville area, 1-2 inches of snow is likely to fall on Saturday night.
Another 7-11 inches is expected during the day on Sunday, followed by an additional 3-5 inches on Sunday night. There is a chance of freezing rain mixing with snow on Sunday night and that could impact snowfall totals slightly.
There is still a chance of snow lingering into Monday morning.
In addition to the heavy snow, air temperatures are expected to be very cold, with daytime highs of 15-20 and overnight lows from 10-15.
Blowing and drifting of snow is likely.
Travel will range from incredibly difficult to impossible during the height of the storm, NWS says.
The latest National Weather Service Blend of Models forecast has Schuylkill County receiving anywhere between 13-16 inches of snow, with lowest amounts in southern Schuylkill and the highest in western Schuylkill.
