A Schuylkill County man is accused of driving his pickup truck off a repossession truck while it was off the ground.
State Police say they were called to the 100 block of Vine St. in Ringtown on Oct. 27 last year by a repossession agent who said a man had damaged his truck while his vehicle was being repossessed.
At the scene, police say they spoke with the repossession agent who said that he was in the process of repossessing the Chevrolet Silverado owned by Robert Lawson, 65, when the owner emerged from his home and attempted to stop him.
First, the agent alleged that Lawson shoved him in the arm as he as operating the controls of his vehicle to lift the pickup truck onto his truck.
The agent said he tried to allow Lawson to remove personal belongings from the vehicle but that Lawson was confrontational the whole time.
As this was happening, a female exited the same house from which Lawson emerged and spoke with Lawson. She then got into a silver Dodge SUV that was parked in front of the Silverado.
As the woman was moving the vehicle and leaving the scene, Lawson allegedly got into the Silverado and drove it off the repossession truck.
Police say they reviewed surveillance video that allegedly shows the lights on the Silverado activating, as if it was being placed into gear. While the truck was off the ground, Lawson drives it off the repossession truck, police say.
The repossession agent also told police that as Lawson was driving away in the Silverado, it’s like he struck another motorist.
Police say they received an invoice accounting for damage done to the repossession truck on Nov. 7. Including parts and labor, the damage to the truck is slightly more than $15,000.
Lawson has been charged with a felony count of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment, and several summary offenses, including harassment, disorderly conduct, driving on a suspended license, and reckless driving.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
