Nearly $1.5 million was awarded Tuesday to six Schuylkill County municipalities and municipal authorities for water and sewage improvement projects.
The funding for these infrastructure projects comes from the PA Small Water and Sewer Program.
“Improved water infrastructure is very much needed in so many of our communities,” State Sen Dave Argall says. “These highly competitive state funds are very important.”
Funding is approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which is an independent agency of the state’s Dept. of Community and Economic Development.
State Rep. JoAnne Stehr says, “By supporting critical water and sewer infrastructure projects, we are helping ensure residents have safe, reliable systems that protect public health and improve quality of life. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these investments will have in our community.”
This grant money is awarded to projects costing anywhere between $30,000 and $500,000.
“Water and sewer upgrades are some of the most urgent and important projects done at the municipal level,” State Rep. Jamie Barton says.
Money can be used to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system or flood control projects.
State Rep. Dane Watro says, “These grants will modernize critical systems, ensuring cleaner water, safer wastewater treatment and stronger foundations for future growth.”
