The case of the woman accused of defecating all over – inside and out – a District Court building in Frackville goes in front of a jury at Schuylkill County Courthouse today.
Shirl Moody, 60, is accused of intentionally pooping both inside the lobby and outside the entrance of Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli’s Frackville office in August.
A Schuylkill County jury is scheduled to hear the case at 9 a.m. Monday with Court of Common Pleas Judge William Burke presiding in Courtroom 3. Assistant District Attorney Karen Byrnes-Noon is presenting the Commonwealth’s case. Moody is represented by public defender Kent Watkins.
Butler Township Police, who filed the initial charges, claim the incident required a specialized biohazard cleaning crew, costing the county $1,506.27.
District Court office staff discovered fecal matter on the lobby floor and staining a wall near the interior restroom shortly after Moody departed the building. Tarantelli subsequently reported finding additional waste and staining on the exterior wall near the office entrance.
Police say surveillance footage shows Moody outside the entrance, allegedly lifting the back of her dress, after which feces appear on the ground.
Moody then allegedly entered the court building, used the restroom, and spoke with staff regarding an unrelated matter without reporting what she’d allegedly done or requesting medical assistance.
Moody is charged with two misdemeanors: institutional vandalism and criminal mischief. Additionally, she faces summary offenses for disorderly conduct and scattering rubbish.
