A Schuylkill County man is suspected of participating in a strong-arm robbery of a delivery driver to steal more than $16,000 worth of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.
The heist allegedly occurred in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, on Thursday.
Police say Joshua Dupree, 41, of Tamaqua, was among three suspects – including one juvenile – who assaulted a delivery driver bringing a shipment of Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Trulicity to Smart Choice Pharmacy on Street Rd.
Dupree, a 21-year-old male named Jahnoi Dawkins, of Albany, New York, and a 17-year-old juvenile from New York City, allegedly assaulted the driver and made off with two boxes of the prescription weight-loss drugs.
Police say they received an alert that the suspects had fled the scene of the alleged robbery in a gold-colored Toyota. They nearly struck an eyewitness who was recording the incident. Police say they caught up to the suspects’ vehicle shortly after their getaway and they were taken into custody.
Through their investigation, police say the suspects traveled from New York to commit the robbery. Staff at the pharmacy reportedly told police they’d received suspicious emails in the days prior to the robbery that asked for details about the delivery.
Dupree and Dawkins were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael Gallagher and charged with felony counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit theft, and conspiracy to receive stolen property.
Gallagher set Dupree’s bail at 10% of $150,000 and Dawkins’ bail at 10% of $250,000 and remanded both to Bucks County Correctional Facility. The third suspect was sent to Bucks County Youth Detention Center.
