At just 17 weeks old, Hazel has already faced more challenges than most creatures see in a lifetime.
A severe infection early in her short time with us here has left her with significant scarring on her eyes, rendering her essentially blind.
But if you think that stops this jet-black beauty, you don’t know the spirit of a true survivor. Hazel is currently waiting for just the right person to walk through the door at Hillside SPCA and give her (and them) the greatest gift they’ve gotten in a long time.
Hazel navigates her world through shadows and instinct, and she doesn’t need 20/20 vision to find the most important thing in the room: you.
She is surprisingly fearless and playful, refusing to let her early setbacks dim her shine. When she wants love, which is often, she’s not shy in letting you know. For not being able to see all that well, her paws are like magnets to anyone walking by her area at the shelter.
While Hazel’s spirit is unbreakable, her eyes are somewhat fragile. She would thrive best in a consistent, indoor environment with a patient owner who understands that she needs time to map her surroundings.
Because she navigates by shadow and sound, she needs a family that can offer safety and stability. Hazel craves being the center of attention and would love a home where she can be doted on endlessly.
