A man wanted on a felony aggravated assault warrant was found hiding in a Schuylkill County basement by a police K9.
State Police say members of their Fugitive Task Force joined with the US Marshal Service at a home along W. Main St. in Hegins Township on Dec. 30 to serve a warrant for the arrest of Kenneth Boyer IV, 26, of Lykens, Dauphin County.
Boyer’s vehicle was spotted in the driveway at that home in the 300 block. Authorities say they announced their presence at the scene and made their way inside the home after not getting a response initially but hearing noise coming from inside.
Once inside, police say they encountered a man who said Boyer was hiding in the basement.
After seeing a sheet covering the basement stairs, police reportedly told Boyer that a K9 would be deployed if he didn’t surrender. Boyer allegedly didn’t respond and K9 Six was sent downstairs to make its apprehension bite, police say.
That action got Boyer to surrender at the bottom of the stairs and he was taken into custody without incident.
Boyer was then taken to Snyder County Prison and then transferred to Clinton County Prison.
Police say they were acting on a felony warrant on a charge of aggravated assault from an alleged incident on Dec. 29.
Boyer has now been charged with a felony count of flight to avoid apprehension and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest in Schuylkill County.
