Canary Rescue Crew: Zennie Needs a Place to Come Into Her Own

Shy and often overlooked

The Canary Rescue Crew is highlighting adoptable pets from shelters and rescues from across Schuylkill County. This year, we’ve stepped up our game by profiling a pet a day.

Today, let’s meet Zennie.

They say black cats are the hardest to place, often fading into the background of a busy shelter. But for those with a keen eye and a patient heart, a cat like Zennie isn’t invisible, she is a mystery waiting to be solved.

Currently residing at Hillside SPCA, Zennie is a survivor. Having arrived as a stray, she has known the uncertainty of the streets, which has made her a bit guarded with her heart. In the loud, sometimes chaotic world of the shelter, she tends to keep to herself, watching the world with observant, soulful eyes. She isn’t the cat who demands attention from every passerby; she is the quiet observer waiting for someone safe.

Zennie would do best in a calm environment where she can decompress and realize that she doesn’t have to fight to survive anymore. While she may seem anti-social at first glance, the staff knows the truth: given the right situation where she can relax, Zennie will absolutely shine. She just needs a chance to prove that her loyalty is worth the wait.

Zennie needs an adopter who respects her boundaries and is willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace.
