A Pottsville man is facing a felony aggravated assault charge after he allegedly punched a police officer in the face overnight.
Police in Pottsville say they responded to a call from a woman in the 1700 block of W. Market St. at about 2 a.m. Thursday. The woman told police she was in her bathroom and concerned for the wellbeing of her and her children. She said her significant other – identified as Isaiah Samuels, 29 – was highly intoxicated at the time and out of control.
Police say they arrived on the scene and were able to get the woman and the children out of the house safely.
Samuels then allegedly rush through the front door of the home in an aggressive manner and punched Cpl. Jonathan Randolph in the face.
Samuels was Tased and taken into custody with help from other officers.
Police are charging Samuels with a felony count of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor count of simple assault, and summary count of harassment. He’s due to be arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, police say.
