Schuylkill County Man Jailed on Burglary, Domestic Assault Charges

Young held on $25K bail

A Schuylkill County man was jailed earlier this week on charges he broke into a home, confronted his partner about cheating, and then assaulted her outside.

State Police say they were dispatched to a home on Pottsville St. in Cressona shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 for a domestic disturbance.

Police say they spoke with a witness who was stopped in traffic at the time he witnessed the alleged assault. The witness reportedly told police he witnessed a black male pushing and punching a white female outside a home on Pottsville St.

The suspect in this incident – later identified as Shawnelle Young, 31, of Pottsville – reportedly got into a vehicle and fled toward the city, the witness told police.

Police say they then spoke with the victim of this alleged assault. She told them that Young had broken into her home through a side window, damaging blinds in the process.

Young allegedly confronted the victim, accusing her of infidelity. The victim told police she began pushing Young from her home and asking him to leave.

Outside the home, Young then shoved the woman into the side of the building and punched her in the face multiple times.

Police say the victim showed signs of injuries consistent with that account of the alleged assault.

Young was apprehended and taken before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer. He was arraigned on felony charges of burglary and criminal trespass as well as a misdemeanor count of simple assault. He’s also been charged with summary counts of criminal mischief and harassment.

Bayer set Young’s bail at $25,000 and committed him to Schuylkill County Prison. Court records show bail has not been posted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 30.
