Municipalities and authorities across Schuylkill County were awarded more than $4.1 million in state grant funding Thursday.
The money comes from the Local Share Account (LSA) program. LSA grants are funded by gaming revenues and designed to fund public projects. The grant program was first started with the passage of the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act of 2004.
These awards were announced by State Sen. Dave Argall and Reps. Tim Twardzik, Joanne Stehr, Jamie Barton, and Dane Watro.
Here’s a breakdown of where the money is being awarded and what projects it’s funding across Schuylkill County:

| Highridge Improvement District Authority | $100,000 | Purchase and install new streetlights in the Highridge Business Park in Cass Township |
| Kline Township | $73,309 | Purchase a 2025 Ford police interceptor vehicle |
| Mahanoy Township | $94,000 | Purchase a new mini-excavator and trailer |
| McAdoo Borough | $49,978 | Renovate the sidewalks at the McAdoo Fire Company |
| North Union Township | $70,408 | Improvements to the Twin County Joint Municipal Authority wastewater treatment and collection system |
| Norwegian Township | $100,000 | Purchase a garbage truck |
| Orwigsburg Borough | $585,000 | Restore the exterior of the historic borough hall building and police office |
| Port Carbon Borough | $680,000 | Convert a former church into a new municipal building and police station |
| Ringtown Borough | $271,000 | Improve the borough’s wastewater treatment plant |
| Schuylkill County | $300,000 | Construct the Mill Creek and Coal Creek sections of the Schuylkill River Trail (on behalf of Schuylkill River Greenway Association) |
| Shenandoah Borough | $83,608 | Purchase a track loader for site development, grounds maintenance, and snow removal |
| Tamaqua Borough | $290,000 | Purchase a new ambulance (on behalf of Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association) |
| Tower City | $600,000 | Replace main water supply lines |
| West Mahanoy Township | $95,000 | Purchase police equipment |
In addition to the LSA grants, Argall and Watro also announced Thursday that Downtown Shenandoah Inc. was awarded $31,500 to fund the construction of the North Schuylkill Center for Economic, Business, and the Arts facility.
