Now is the perfect time to rescue a dog or cat in Schuylkill County and give them the forever home they richly deserve.
Thanks to a spirited donation, Reading & Northern Railroad has pledged to cover the adoption fees for any and all animals adopted at Hillside SPCA, outside Pottsville, from now until Jan. 15, 2026.
“The railroad is committed to protecting the Earth and the creatures living on it,” Reading & Northern owner and CEO Andy Muller says. “Our friends at Hillside SPCA have been dealing with an astronomical number of stray drop-offs, dumped animals, and long-term residents in the past few months. We would love to see them find a place to call home for the rest of their lives!”
Hillside SPCA is open to the public from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily, including weekends, to visit adoptable animals like Duchess, the adorable tabby pictured above.
Adoption forms can be found on the shelter’s site by following this link.
Duchess is about four months old and ready to leave shelter life behind her. She’s extremely friendly, loves to be held, and would make a perfect addition to any household.
If you’re more of a dog person, check out Havoc. He’s been at the shelter for the last six months and would love to make yours his forever home this holiday season.
