A Schuylkill County woman is facing a domestic assault charge after she allegedly struck a woman multiple times with a cane.
Also, her last name is Kane.
Police in Tamaqua say they were called to a home on E. Elm St. Saturday night (Dec. 13) for a report of a domestic dispute.
As police arrived at the scene, they say they could hear yelling coming from inside the residence. Through the door, police say they could see a woman in a white tank top yelling.
That woman walked toward the door and then walked away and yelled, “Did you call the police‽” She then opened the door and police identified her as Ashley Kane, 37, of Tamaqua.
After speaking with the victim of the alleged incident, police determined that Kane struck her girlfriend, the victim, with a cane. Police say they witnessed a welt on the victim’s hip.
A bent cane was also seen on the floor, police say.
A juvenile witness also reportedly told police that they saw Kane strike the victim with a cane.
Kane is also accused of pulling the victim’s hair during the alleged incident.
Police charged Kane with simple assault and she was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, who released her on $10,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 23.
