Two Schuylkill County women facing animal cruelty charges appeared in District Court last week.
On Friday, Sylwia Zapolska, 45, was arraigned at District Court in Tremont on 10 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, 10 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, 10 misdemeanor counts of neglecting animals veterinary care, 10 summary counts of transporting animals in a cruel manner, and 10 summary counts of abandoning a dog.
State Police say Zapolska dumped numerous dead puppies in bags at a Wayne Township restaurant’s dumpster back in August. One of the bags contained a live puppy.
At her arraignment on Friday morning, Magisterial District Judge Casimir Kosciolek set bail at $100,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled, according to court records.
Preliminary Hearing Continued in Pottsville Case
Destiny Serafini, 24, of Pottsville, is facing a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals as well as misdemeanor neglect of animals charges after police say two dogs were found outside a property on E. Market St. where she resided in the city last month.
One of the dogs was found dead on the morning of Nov. 12. The other was severely dehydrated, extremely malnourished, and weak, police say. It has since been adopted after being taken to Hillside SPCA for care.
On Monday, Serafini appeared at the court of Magisterial District Judge James Reiley for a preliminary hearing. However, the case was continued pending further investigation, according to Assistant District Attorney Andrew Bench.
A new preliminary hearing date has not been scheduled, court records show. Serafini is free on $20,000 unsecured bail.
