A man was taken into custody Saturday night after police say he threatened a woman and later struggled with officers, at one point driving one into a doorway at the station.
Police in Shenandoah say they were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of W. Centre St. around 9 p.m. on Nov. 30. A 9-1-1 dispatcher reportedly informed police that a juvenile had called to report a male and female were arguing inside the home.
Upon arrival, police say they made contact with Seth Beattie, 33, of Shenandoah. Beattie claimed nothing was going on and denied fighting with anyone. However, a woman at the residence told police she wanted Beattie removed from the home.
Police say they heard recordings from the woman’s phone that appeared to capture Beattie yelling, “I am going to knock you into another universe.”
Beattie allegedly became irritated while police listened to the recordings. He approached the kitchen area in a “hostile manner,” coming within arm’s length of one officer while yelling at he and the female victim.
Beattie was subsequently taken into custody.
While being escorted from the residence, police say Beattie began to pull away and attempted to throw himself over a railing.
After officers say they regained control and moved him down the stairs, Beattie allegedly attempted to throw himself over a neighbor’s railing. He continued to pull away from officers while being placed in a patrol vehicle, police say.
The resistance continued at the police station, where Beattie allegedly refused to exit the vehicle. Two officers were reportedly needed to remove Beattie from the patrol vehicle.
Inside the station, police say Beattie kicked off a wall and drove one officer into the doorway of an interview room.
Beattie was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley on a felony charge of aggravated assault on a designated individual, as well as misdemeanor counts of simple assault, making terroristic threats, and resisting arrest, as well as a summary offense for harassment.
Reiley set bail at $20,000 cash and remanded Beattie to Schuylkill County Prison, where court records show he remains as of Dec. 6. A preliminary hearing before Judge Anthony Kilker is scheduled for Dec. 11.
