A Schuylkill County man is in custody after police allege he admitted to knowingly taking possession of a vehicle that had been stolen during a burglary in Frackville and then parked it right across the street from a police station.
Joseph Zendrosky, 47, of Shenandoah, was taken into custody on Sunday by Mahanoy City Police following an investigation. Zendrosky was jailed and is being held on 10% of $5,000.
Police say they were notified on Sunday that a 2017 Chevrolet sedan, reported stolen by police in Frackville, had been detected entering the borough by the Flock camera system late on Nov. 29. The vehicle was connected to a burglary currently under investigation by Frackville Police.
Mahanoy City Police located the suspected stolen vehicle parked at the corner of S. 3rd and E. Market streets, directly across from the Mahanoy City police station.
Upon reviewing surveillance video from the police station building, investigators observed the vehicle arriving at 12:07 a.m. Sunday. Police say a male driver exited the vehicle and walked to a rear apartment at 301 E. Pine St.
Surveillance video reportedly captured the man, wearing brown boots, tan jeans, and a black jacket, leaving and re-entering the apartment and using the vehicle multiple times throughout the early morning hours.
At approximately 6:15 p.m. Sunday, police from Mahanoy City and Frackville went to the Pine Street apartment. Police spoke with a tenant who stated the occupants were himself, his wife, and “Joe.”
When the man, identified as Zendrosky, exited the apartment building, police say he matched the description of the male observed on the video. He was taken into custody at that time.
A search incident to arrest allegedly found the keys to the 2017 Chevrolet in Zendrosky’s pocket. He was then walked across the street to the Mahanoy City Police station for questioning.
Zendrosky reportedly said he received the vehicle the previous evening in Girardville from a friend he refused to name. Police say Zendrosky admitted his friend told him the vehicle was stolen, but it didn’t bother him and he took possession of it.
Zendrosky was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley in Pottsville, who set bail and ordered him to Schuylkill County Prison on a charge of receiving stolen property.
