Small Business Showcase: Glow Massage and Esthetics

As they prepare to celebrate their 5-year anniversary this December, Glow Massage and Esthetics stands as a testament to resilience and growth.

Founded by Amber Grube in 2020, what began as a “tiny dream” shared by two people during the height of the pandemic has blossomed into a full-service salon and day spa in downtown Pottsville.

Now employing 16 talented women, Glow offers a comprehensive range of beauty and wellness services under one roof.

Grube discusses navigating a business opening during COVID, the rapid expansion of her team, and how they are celebrating the holidays this year.

What inspired you to start this business, and how did your personal journey lead you here?

“As we’re getting ready to celebrate our 5-year anniversary this December, Glow started as a tiny dream back in 2020. Just two girls offering massages, facials, and waxing, has become a full-service salon and day spa filled with sixteen incredibly talented women who pour their hearts into their work every single day.”

What unique products or services do you offer that can’t be found elsewhere in our community?

“At Glow, clients love that they can book everything in one welcoming space. From massage therapy, facials, waxing, lash lifts & tints, nails, spray tans, and specialty skincare, to pop-up events, vendors, and community experiences. Glow offers a full menu of services under one roof with providers they know and trust.”

Can you share an interesting fact or story about your business that most people may not know?

“A fun fact most people don’t know: Glow opened during COVID and within a year and a half expanded into a full-service day spa offering over eight different service categories. Every room and every new service was added because clients asked for it. Glow literally grew alongside our community.”

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a small business, and how did you overcome it?

“The biggest challenge we’ve faced as a small business was opening and growing during COVID. Starting a business in uncertain times tested our resilience, creativity, and determination. We overcame it by listening to our clients, staying adaptable, and focusing on building a supportive, trusted community. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow, expand our services, and create the full-service spa Glow is today.”

How does your business contribute to the local community or participate in community events?

“Glow is proud to stay connected and give back to our community year-round. We regularly donate to local raffles, bingos, and fundraisers, and we love hosting events throughout the year. Our annual GlowFest being the biggest celebration we share with the community. Right now, we’re also accepting toy donations for Christmas to support Dustin’s Adventureland, helping bring joy to local kids during the holidays.”

What do you want customers to experience when they interact with your business?

“At Glow, we want every visit to be fun, relaxing, and welcoming. From the moment clients walk in, they should feel comfortable, cared for, and part of our Glow family. We pride ourselves on creating a safe space and every client leaves feeling their best.”

Why should someone consider visiting or patronizing your business during the holiday season?

“The holidays are the perfect time to treat yourself or someone you love! We’re kicking things off with our biggest gift card sale of the year starting Black Friday, plus multiple giveaways all December long. Don’t miss our 5-year celebration on November 30th from 11 AM to 2 PM. It’s our biggest party yet, and everyone’s invited!”

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own business in our community?

“If you’re thinking about starting your own business in our community, be ready to work hard, stay persistent, and believe in your vision. Listen to feedback, adapt when needed, and focus on building relationships and trust. Your community will be your strongest support. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to start small and grow at your own pace.”
