Shenandoah Man Dies in I-81 Crash Friday Evening

A Shenandoah man died Friday evening in a three-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.

According to information from State Police-Frackville, the crash occurred on the southbound side of I-81 in Delano Township, near Mile Marker 135.5.

At the time of the crash, a tractor-trailer driven by Charvel Prophete, 42, of Columbus, Ohio, was driving south in the right lane of the interstate. An Audi Q5 driven by Danyel Miller, 25, of Shenandoah, was behind Prophete’s vehicle in the passing lane. And a third vehicle, a Honda Civic driven by Raphael Ceballos, 28, of Hazleton, was behind Prophete and Miller in the right lane.

Police say Ceballos’ vehicle passed a fourth, uninvolved vehicle on the shoulder of the highway. When Ceballos’ vehicle re-entered the road, its 1 o’clock position hit Prophete’s vehicle’s 7 o’clock position and then struck Miller’s vehicle in an unknown location.

Ceballos’ vehicle spun an unknown number of time before coming to a stop in the right lane of I-81 South, facing north.

Miller’s vehicle left the east shoulder of the interstate and traveled down an embankment in the grass median. While traveling down the embankment, Miller’s vehicle rolled over an unknown number of times, coming to final rest in the passing lane of I-81 North, facing east.

Prophete’s tractor-trailer came to a controlled stop on the west shoulder of I-81 South, facing south.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.

Prophete and Ceballos suffered minor injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
