PPL Electric has proposed an increase in its energy supply rate – shown to consumers as the Price to Compare – starting in December.
On Friday, PPL notified its customers that the new Price to Compare, if approved, in December will be:
- Residential: 12.953¢ per kWh (up from 12.490¢ per kWh)
- Business: 12.681¢/kWh (up from 12.114¢/kWh)
The new Price to Compare rates, if approved, would be in effect from Dec. 1 until May 31, 2026. PPL typically adjusts this Price to Compare rate twice a year.
“We continue to see electric generation supply prices rise across Pennsylvania due to a surge in electricity demand and limited new generation resources,” the company says in its email to customers. “We purchase electricity through competitive auctions and the resulting costs are passed on without markup to customers who do not shop for their own electric generation supply. Even though we don’t control these market prices, they may directly influence the supply side of your bill.”
On Sept. 30, PPL said it would also seek a 7% increase in its distribution rate. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission suspended that request pending further investigation and likely won’t rule on it until the middle of next year.

PPL continues to shove it to the people and the PUC goes right along with them. Deregulation was supposed to lower prices and instead it has put them through the roof.
