A Schuylkill County man was jailed Monday after he allegedly strangled and hit a woman with a baseball bat in a fight over ownership of a truck.
Police in Shenandoah say they were called to the scene of an assault in the 200 block of E. Lloyd St. shortly before noon on Monday (Oct. 20).
As they arrived on the scene, police say they could hear yelling coming from inside the residence. Once inside, police say they immediately pulled Frank George, 62, of Shenandoah, off of a female victim.
George, police say, had the victim pinned down on a couch in the living room with both hands wrapped around her throat.
In speaking with the victim, police say they learned that a previous argument the night prior over ownership of a pickup truck had settled down but sparked back up again when George returned to the residence on Monday.
George allegedly became irate, demanding that he be given the keys to the truck he believed was his. Police say it is registered to the victim.
When the victim refused to give him the keys, George allegedly went to the basement and grabbed an Easton baseball bat, came back upstairs, and started jabbing the victim in the rib cage with it.
Police say the victim had redness on her ribs from where she was struck with the bat.
Another resident in that Lloyd St. home came in to break up the argument and held George’s arms behind his back for a time. When that resident let go, George then attacked the victim again, getting on top of her on the couch and strangling her to the point she could no longer breathe, police report.
George was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker Monday afternoon and charged with felony strangulation, misdemeanor counts of simple assault and possessing a controlled substance (weed found in his pants pocket during a search), and a summary offense of harassment.
Kilker set bail at $25,000 cash and George was sent to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
