Schuylkill County Woman Eludes Police Chase Twice in Two Weeks

Suspect wanted on bench warrant

Police say a Schuylkill County woman evaded them twice in the last two weeks.

According to court records, police in Shenandoah say they observed Heather Bowden, 38, operating a “pedal cycle” in the 100 block of N. Jardin St. headed toward W. Coal St. just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 5.

Bowden, police say, is wanted on a bench warrant for a parole violation.

Police say they approached Bowden on foot and told her to stop. However, she apparently had no intention of doing that. and began to flee on her pedal cycle.

Bowden turned onto W. Coal St. and then onto N. Ferguson St. until she reached an empty lot. She then ditched her cycle in the lot and took off on foot toward the 200 block of N. Jardin St.

With police waiting for her on N. Jardin St., Bowden allegedly ran back toward N. Ferguson St. and that’s when police say they lost her.

They would get another chance at taking Bowden into custody on Sept. 10, about about 11 a.m. At that time, police say they saw Bowden riding a red ATV accompanied by Jason Oshman, who rode a white dirt bike, on Herald Rd.

Police say they tried to initiate a traffic stop on both Bowden and Oshman but only Oshman stopped. He’s received a summary citation for riding a dirt bike on borough streets.

Bowden, police say, fled that stop, too, continuing to accelerate north in the 400 block of S. Main St. She turned onto a dirt road and continued speeding away until she hit a wooded area, which is when police abandoned their pursuit.

Bowden has been ordered to answer to two misdemeanor counts of flight to avoid apprehension and one count of fleeing or eluding police as well as a summary offense for operating an ATV on borough streets. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on Oct. 2.
